Day 5 - Hakone

HAKONE

Hakone is a picturesque town located in the Kanagawa Prefecture of Japan. It's renowned for its stunning natural beauty, including iconic Mount Fuji views, natural geo-thermic hot springs (onsen), and the gorgeous Lake Ashi. But it’s also a car enthusiast's haven, boasting the iconic route ‘The Hakone Turnpike’ a winding mountain road with panoramic views of Fuji.

Head to Hakone Accommodation

  • Richmond Hotel Premier Tokyo Schole ~ Shinjuku Station: 32 minutes by train (1 transfer) - ¥360 - directions

    Shinjuku Station ~ Hakone-Yumoto Station: 1 hour 33 minutes by limited express train (romancecar) from - ¥2,470 - directions You can buy tickets from Hakone Shinjuku ticket machines, or pre-book the romance train here.

    Note: If you’ll be traveling with luggage, I recommend booking tickets on either the 70000 series GSE or 30000 series EXEα romancecar as they have dedicated luggage racks onboard. Both a regular ticket and a limited express ticket are needed to ride the Romancecar.

    (stop for a break at Hakone-Yumoto if you want to explore the shopping street before continuing on to the accommodation)

    Hakone Yumoto Station ~ Gora Station : 37 minutes by train (direct via the Hakonetozan Line) - ¥460 - directions

    Gora Station ~ Gora Tensui: 110m / 2 minutes on foot - directions

Hakone Kowakien Yunessun is a popular hot spring resort and water park known for its unique and playful approach to onsen bathing. Featuring a variety of themed baths, including wine, coffee, green tea, and sake, as well as an outdoor onsen providing spectacular views out into the valley.

* Hakone Kawakien Yunessun is no visible tattoos allowed, so pack a rash vest or some large bandaids/skins etc to cover them up if you’ve got them.
