    Kan’eiji is a historic Tendai Buddhist temple founded in 1625 by the monk Tenkai, with strong backing from the Tokugawa shogunate. Once sprawling across what is now Ueno Park and Ueno Station, its grounds rivalled today’s park in size. Although much of the complex was destroyed in the 1868 Battle of Ueno during the Meiji Restoration, several important structures still stand. These include a five‑storied pagoda, the Kiyomizu‑style Kannon Hall, the Bentendō hall floating on Shinobazu Pond, and the Konpon‑chūdō main hall relocated from Kawagoe

The Kan’eiji Temple Kaizando Hall (also known as “Ryodaishi”) is located in Ueno, Tokyo. Built in the 17th Century, this Buddhist site is famous for being the family temple of the Tokugawa dynasty of shoguns who founded and ruled during the Edo Shogunate. Here you can experience goma fire ritual for protection from evil spirits as well as zazen meditation for ascetic self-knowledge.
